OpenClaw 2026.4.23 Released: Media Generation, Agents & Security
OpenClaw 2026.4.23 is out
The new release includes a lot of useful improvements, but the main highlights are a major update to media generation, agent stability, and security.
What’s new:
• openai/gpt-image-2 can now work via Codex OAuth even without OPENAI_API_KEY
• added image generation / image editing via OpenRouter
• image_generate now includes new hints for quality and format, plus additional provider-specific options
• agents and sub-agents got better context handling and timeoutMs for image/video/music/TTS generation
• improved memory/local embeddings for weaker hosts
• lots of fixes for Telegram, WhatsApp, WebChat, Codex, Google, OpenAI, OpenRouter, and plugin startup
Especially useful:
• fixed Telegram media replies
• improved handling of long async results
• fixed several issues with image generation routing
• even more security hardening across gateway, plugins, approvals, mobile pairing, and webhooks
